Hyaluronic acid (HA) is one of the most common moisturizing ingredients in skincare products. Its main function is to absorb and lock in moisture, keeping skin soft and smooth. Different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid have different levels of skin penetration:
Large molecule HA: Forms a moisturizing film on the skin's surface, locking in moisture.
Small molecule HA: Can penetrate into the dermis, improving dryness and increasing elasticity.
Adding hyaluronic acid to face masks not only provides rapid hydration but also aids absorption with massage. However, in dry environments, HA alone may not be enough; it's best to combine it with occlusive moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin and squalane.
